Our Team
Rev. Alicia Hilding ‘08 (She/Her)
Alicia shares the position of Dean of Christ Chapel and Chaplain of the College with her spouse, Ben. This will be her second year being a part of the Faith, Science, and Ethics Camp, and she is eager, again, to join the team of exceptional student leaders, campus department leaders, and local church partners.
As a person who loves to learn, this camp is fulfilling because it includes thought-provoking theologians, scientists, and ethicists who are a part of the greater Gustavus community. Alicia appreciates the sense of authentic community this camp develops because of the meaningful topics the camp engages. The number of people who return each year speaks to the value of this unique camp experience. Alicia looks forward to welcoming new and returning individuals for the 2026 summer camp experience, while starting her first year as Co-Director.
Jodi Maas (She/Her)
Jodi has been a dedicated member of the camp community for nine years and currently serves as Assistant Director of the Chaplain’s Office. She has been involved with the Faith, Science, and Ethics Academy since 2018 and serves as Co-Director of the FSEC Camp. In this role, Jodi plays a central part in planning and executing the program, helping to train, supervise, and support mentors both in preparation for the summer and throughout the intensive week when fellows arrive on campus.
Jodi brings a steady presence and deep institutional knowledge to the camp, ensuring continuity from year to year while also fostering growth and innovation. She is especially committed to cultivating a welcoming, thoughtful, and supportive environment where fellows and mentors alike can engage deeply with questions at the intersection of faith, science, and ethics. Over the years, her leadership has been instrumental in shaping the camp’s culture, strengthening its sense of community, and supporting the meaningful relationships that make the FSEC experience impactful and enduring.
Rev. Grady St. Dennis ‘92 (He/Him)
Grady is the Executive Chaplain and Associate Vice President of Mission at Gustavus. This is his 20th year at Gustavus.
Grady is the Senior Administrator for the Faith, Science, and Ethics Camp, and his primary role is the financial management and oversight of the program for Gustavus and the Lilly Endowment. He was part of the original grant-writing team in 2014 and is a founding leader of the Camp since its inception in 2015.
He shares that he loves so many aspects about the Faith, Science, and Ethics Camp, but the collaborative process with which the academic theme for the camp is developed, and the depth of conversations that happen between the college students and high school youth.
Dr. Marcia Bunge (She/Her)
Marcia J. Bunge, Ph.D., is Professor of Religion, the Bernhardson Distinguished Chair of Lutheran Studies, and Co-Founder of the Faith Science and Ethics Camp at Gustavus Adolphus College. She earned her B.A. in Music and English at St. Olaf College and her Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Chicago.
Over the course of her career, Bunge has published nine books and numerous articles on diverse topics in theology and ethics and procured institutional and research grants totalling more than $4.5 million. Chad Winterfeldt (He/Him)
Chad has been part of the camp since its inception, contributing his talents across all ten academies. Known for his love of Cheez-Its and his steady, grounding presence, Chad provides musical support that helps set the tone for the camp experience. Whether accompanying gatherings or adding moments of joy through music, his skills are an integral part of camp life. On occasion, Chad can be persuaded to give a tour of the chapel organ—or even take a song request, which might include an unexpected Lil Nas X selection on the organ. His creativity, humor, and musicianship bring a unique energy that campers and staff alike have come to love.
